The Rock, Land Edition

Midrange decks usually try to slowly build advantage over the course of the game, but this deck does so in a very different way. Being able to use your lands, and turn them into card advantage puts you ahead of your opponents who can't do the same. Modern has quite a lot of cards to let you do so. Tireless Tracker , and Nissa, Vital Force both let you draw extra cards from playing your lands. They are key components to this deck being able to function the way that you want it to.  The deck has quite a few other cards that deal with lands such as The Gitrog Monster drawing you cards when they leave the battlefield, and Courser of Kruphix letting you play lands from the top of your deck while also gaining you life in the process. The Gitrog Monster is really good with fetchlands letting you draw a card from it going to the graveyard. Even better if you have a Nissa, Vital Force emblem or a Tireless Tracker when you get a trigger for playing the land, it leaving, and another ente

Mardu Pyromancer

I created a version of this deck a few years ago when dredge was really big in the format. I wanted to play a deck that could stand somewhat a chance against such an explosive deck, and so I started playing with the idea of playing multiple main-board Surgical Extractions .  Even against other decks that don't have as much interaction with their graveyard, the Surgical Extractions can be very good if paired with a Young Pyromancer , getting rid of a threat, or a problem card, from your opponents deck while also creating a board state for yourself is always a good move. Another good reason to play Surgical Extraction with Young Pyromancer is that it is a "free" spell, so you can get value off of his ability as soon as he hits the board. No more playing him on turn 2, just to have him killed, or having to wait until turn 3 to play him. The Surgicals are also very good when paired with any discard spells to make sure that you get rid of whatever card is in their hand for goo

Why We're Here

Hi I'm Clayton I started playing magic in 2010, and was immediately getting crushed by caw-blade, Valakut, and any deck running JTMS... I kept coming up with new ideas using the random cards given to me, one of my first decks utilized cunning sparkmage and basilisk collar to try to deal with any creatures, and then win with big creatures. From that point on I have liked to create new Magic the Gathering decks with interesting mechanics or cards. I will also often find existing decks and put a unique spin on them to make them my own. So I'm here to do just that and to share those decks and ideas with all of you. As well as give a description of what the deck tries to do, and why I included the cards I did. I plan on eventually playing these decks on MTGO and showing all of you my process in piloting these decks, once I have the means to do so. I typically brew for Modern and Pioneer, and occasionally Pauper and Legacy. I hope you all find new decks, archetypes, or cards to consi
